Portrait of an Old Lady

They say that wisdom comes with age. I tend to think that beauty comes with age too (although not everyone might agree!). In any case it certainly goes for this lady I met in Sri Lanka. She was very kind and willing to pose, so that I could take pictures and use them to create her portrait later on. This is my first attempt at drawing in graphite. Unfortunately the texture of the paper was a bit coarse, making it hard to layer on. The end result is a bit too light for my liking. I might just have another go at this portrait on a different piece of paper!

As for the saying that wisdom comes with age, I hope it goes for me too. And if not, well, maybe just beauty?
